Pulse Psychology can provide clinical psychology services under Medicare referrals and Private Health insurance so you can obtain a rebate for the session. The standard counselling appointment is $210 per hour with a Medicare rebate of $128.40 under Better Access Scheme. DVA gold card holders and eligible white card holders are bulk billed under a D904 Referral.
Payment is expected at the time of consultation. If you are unable to pay for your appointment on the day, please call us before your appointment time.
Pulse Psychology requires at least 24 hours' notice for cancellation of an appointment. Otherwise, the full cost of the session will be charged. We do understand that there are rare occasions where you may need to cancel at short notice due to an unforeseen event and we offer flexibility in these circumstances. As your appointment time is reserved for you, we are unable to offer the time slot to another waiting client if you cancel at short notice.
At present, Medicare's Better Access program enables 10 sessions per calendar year with an additional 10 sessions under COVID. To obtain a plan and the Medicare rebate, you must have a GP or psychiatrist referral.
Depending on whether you can attend during the day or evening, Pulse Psychology charges a standard fee that is usually $81 above the Medicare rebate, so this is an out of the pocket expense.
We are committed to making psychological services available to all people, regardless of their financial situation. In times of financial difficulty, we can offer reduced-fee appointments to help reduce the out-of-pocket costs of our clients.
Our reduced-fee services are reserved for Concession and Health Care Card holders. This includes anyone who receives an age or disability pension, are unemployed, or a full-time tertiary student. We have a strictly limited number of reduced-fee appointments available, and there may be a waiting list, however we do our best to accommodate your needs. Please note that we are not a bulk-billing practice.
If you would prefer not to visit your GP to get a referral or are not eligible under Medicare, you can make an appointment directly with Pulse Psychology. Please note that self-referred clients are required to pay the full cost of sessions at their own expense.
Department of Veteran Affairs Referrals
Our services are bulk billed for holders of a DVA Gold Card. For those who hold a DVA White Card, please check with the Department of Veteran Affairs to determine if you are eligible for psychology services.
Private Health Funds
Rebates are available for most private health insurers where comprehensive extras are part of the policy. We recommend you contact your insurer to check your level of cover and the rebate. It is not usually possible to claim both private health and Medicare for one appointment. Hence, most clients choose to utilise their Medicare sessions first then claim through private health funds provider for further sessions if needed.
